Linus Yale Junior Key 1861
Hello i have this key and its the same one in the patent diagram from 1861,the key says Linus Yale Jr and says patent my question is how many keys are there and are they rare?

Yes they are rare. You don't happen to have the lock as well by any chance ?

i only have the key and the other attachment comb looking thing, the keys is in great shape,

Be very careful to keep the two parts togther as the key is really only a holder / carrier for the loose 'bit' and it is important that you have both parts.

I found this in a basement in New Jersey ,so do you know how many keys were made?

No records exist. There would never have been many made (perhaps less than a 100) as they were only for very expensive locks used in banks. I know of around 10 keys I think, and 3 locks. There will surely be more hidden away in peoples collections.

BTW - Not that you would I am sure, but don't be tempted to clean or polish this key. Leave it just as it is !
