Wellington Cylinders
These lever cylinders were very common in Greater London Council built housing estates of the 60s and 70s. They were used with a mortice latch that had a rectangular bolt with a large ball bearing, the idea (I think) was to make it more resistant to the credit card attack. The inside had a thumbturn that engaged a slot in a similar way to the cylinder. The GLC cylinders were all aluminium, the lock body was steel and (IIRC) the bolt was aluminium with a steel ball. The original keys were really nice, cast brass (or bronze?) about two thirds the length of the one shown and with a round bow with the manufacturers name cast into it. I have some here, will post a pic soon ...
Regards
Phil

As promised, some original keys for the cylinder below. They are one of my favourite types of key, something about the size and the feel. I have somewhere a couple of the aluminium cylinders with keys but have not been able to find them.
Looking at the third from the top, it may be possible to rearrange the order of the levers and make a cut on the key to provide your lock with an "original" style key.
Quite happy to send it if you would like to do this.Regards
Phil

:-D This thread needs more pictures.
I once saw a 'Wellington Lever' door lock on someone's door in a block of flats years ago, when I was doing a friend's free-issue newpaper round. It was a silver-looking thing with the smallest of key-holes!
I recently tried to see if I can find a picture of one on Google....and guess what?
I didn't find what I was looking for, but I did find this forum however..gif)
For those that have Wellington's sitting about, please do post pictures, as I would like to see if it's the same as the ones that I saw on peoples front doors in the block of flats on my friend's paper round.
Year? I think, looking back on it, I noticed those wellington's about 1992.
I look forward to seeing your Wellingtons!

Wellington Cylinder locks
Well I do remember these way back in the early 60's though I think they were brought out before then. I seem to recall us stripping them down and keying alike for some customers. The only ones I saw were brass finish?
