Hi, Does anyone know of a good sort of "encyclopedia" of antique safes, especially European? I am as interested (if not more) in the actual safe than the locking mechanism.

Thanks for the link. I'm going to make a purchase, but I noticed "The Lure Of The Lock" was unavailable from Amazon.

The book I received is brand new. If it was reprinted recently it doesn't show it (Reprinted 1954).
What do you think of the price? And of the lock bolt from the Roman era?

NOTE: After I posted this I decided to dig a little deeper on the date of this book. Sure enough, in the back of the book it says "reproduced MCMLXXX and MCMXCI" which is 1980 and 1991.

Wow, 35 years make s a difference. IIRC mine was purchases from the museum directly about that long ago for $8.00.
